Hi Ben,

This looks great – simple to navigate around, the most obvious and necessary headings are there, clear font used. I wonder if there needs to be a ‘for children’ page or would you envisage that going on the ‘links’ section? Or, would you see a serious of pages running from each class link e.g. a page for parents, a page for pupils?

Thanks Ben – good stuff.

New Website

May 4th, 2009

The new Dunbury website is nearly finished, it just needs some little things sorted out but is much better than the old site. At the moment it is sitting on my web server but will need to be transferred across to the school at some point. Here is the link to it here:

Ben,

Today is too short notice I’m afraid – gaps in my diary don’t exist for long during the average school day.

Tomorrow I could see you between 9.30 – 11.00 (I’m teaching at 11), or after school at 5.30/6.00 either at Winterborne Whitechurch or Winterborne Stickland base.

Friday I could see you at the end of the day, 4.00 at Winterborne Kingston.

Let me know if any of those are okay.

HI Ben,

Thank you for getting in touch.

The website needs some pretty radical surgery I think! I’ve been working on a totally new website during the start of the Easter holiday, and so have lots of ideas which I would be more than happy to discuss. Thank you for offering to come to school to meet me, which may be easiest to fit in with my diary, but …. if you do not live locally to Blandford then I am more than happy to try and arrange something else, e.g. a MacDonalds with our laptops! When is it easiest for you? Give me some times and then we can work out where.

Thanks

Caroline

Joomla & Wordpress

April 14th, 2009

Have been working on and looking at Joomla and Wordpress more deeply over the break. I have now uploaded and installed the two systems in a testing directory on my website, the URL’s are below.

http://www.benmgiles.co.uk/testing/wordpress/

http://www.benmgiles.co.uk/testing/joomla/

The setup process of the two system’s was slightly different, the wordpress was easy as I had done this one before for my main website which I am writing on right now. The joomla system was a bit more complex but still staight forward, it needed extra things like ftp access etc. I have just the basic levels of knoledge for the database side/MySQL etc to be able to know what I am doing.

Over the Easter break I was messing around with Joomla trying to experiment with how it works, as I had never used it before. I found it a bit complicated and thought to myself that if I am finding it so, then maybe the client will suffer as well. I was trying to delete, move things and edit stuff so much that in the end it just stoped working, it was brocken so I just left it at that. I might have a look at it again in my third year.

With Wordpress over the Easter break I just kept looking through every possible option of changing everything even down to the css and php.

Content Management Systems – CushyCMS

March 31st, 2009

CushyCMS is another of the same sort and similar to Surreal CMS in that it is connected to your website and you can easily update things easily. You just insert the short line of code into div’s, img, h1 nearly any type of tag, this is the yet so simple code you insert class=”cushycms”. Surreal CMS works pritty much the same way, the thing with CushyCMS is that is a lot simpler with less features but the one thing that these two systems have most in common is that they are free to use. There is a premium service that you can pay for but the free version is just fine for what its worth. I have also connected this one to my website as well, I have also embedded the CushyCMS website in an iframe in my website to see how it could work for the client.

Get the Flash Player to see the wordTube Media Player.

Quick video on how CushyCMS works above.
