The Mad Agency

January 24th, 2007

Had 2 guest speakers from the Mad Agency yesterday, found them very insightful and their talk was very useful. They came up with some great theories on how to get into the Industry and also to pitch idea’s to a client. I thought that the idea that when pitching an initial idea to a client to show them a hand drawn sketch very interesting. He was so correct in his thinking that clients only see what is on the surface and if the do not like a certain font or photo they are put off instantly.

3rd Year Crit Sit-in

December 15th, 2006

Sat in with the third years today for their fmp lead up project, their work was incredible especially Steven Oates’s flash based application which allows the user to drag and drop files into a virtual scrapbook. Also Sonia Smith’s interactive floor panels where really interesting.

Steven Marr

November 29th, 2006

Had a talk and presentation with 3rd year student Steven Marr today. He showed us his simple yet really effective large pixel lighting technique which he uses to light stages at live events/concerts. It consists of a metre square grid of smaller diffused squares with led lights beneath which show colour pixel by pixel. Although I am not really interested in going into the stage lighting route the possibility’s are endless through-out all multimedia purposes.

Tony Chance

October 31st, 2006

Liam has hurt his leg today so we had Phil for the web page design today then in the afternoon we had guest speaker Tony Chance, a very renowned storyboard artist for films like American Beauty, AvP, Road to Perdition and Mission Impossible. The talk was really informative and Tony told us about some great story’s about the film industry. He also showed us how his boards relate to the movies themselves and passed around some original AvP artwork he had done. I also found out what the producers role in a movie is, the cash handler.
